Uploading folders

You can upload folders in two ways: drag a folder directly onto the upload area, or click "Select folder" to browse for one. All files inside the folder are included, along with any subfolders and their contents. The full folder hierarchy is preserved.

Nested folders

ZappFiles handles deeply nested folder structures without any issues. Whether you have a project with a handful of subfolders or a complex directory with many levels deep, the full structure is uploaded and preserved.

How many files can one upload hold?

Up to 1,000 files, on every plan. That covers a full photo shoot or a project folder comfortably. If a selection would push an upload past 1,000, it is left out and you see a "Too many files for one upload" notice. Zip the folder in Finder or Explorer and send the .zip instead: it uploads as one file, and your recipient gets the same folder back when they unzip it.

Mac apps need zipping first

On a Mac, an app is a folder in disguise. Finder shows one icon for Something.app, but underneath sit thousands of small files. If you drop one on the uploader, it gets left out and you see a "Zip it before you send it" notice. That is deliberate: a browser can only read the file contents, not the permissions and code signature an app needs, so an app sent as loose files will not open on the other side.

Right-click the app in Finder, choose "Compress", and send the .zip. It uploads as one file and unzips into a working app. The same goes for plugins and frameworks. Document bundles like Final Cut libraries, iMovie libraries, Logic projects, and Pages files upload as folders and open normally after your recipient unzips them, though zipping first makes large ones faster to send.

Browsing folders on the download page

The download page shows your folder structure with breadcrumb navigation. Recipients can browse through folders, open subfolders, and navigate back up the tree. This makes it easy to find specific files within a large upload.

One shortcut: when a transfer is a single folder and nothing else, the download page opens inside it, so your recipient sees the files straight away instead of one folder tile to click through. Any subfolders inside it still show as folders, and the ZIP still contains the folder itself.

Downloading preserves structure

When recipients download a ZIP, the folder layout inside matches exactly what you uploaded. No files end up in the wrong place and nothing gets flattened into a single directory. They extract the ZIP and have everything organized the way you intended.

Great for creative projects

Folder support is especially useful for creative professionals. Designers can share organized asset libraries, videographers can send projects with footage, proxies, and project files in their original layout, and photographers can deliver shoots organized by set or location.
